The Santuario dell’Incoronata – Calvanico Trail
The route begins at Santuario dell’Incoronata [Shrine of Our Lady Crowned], following the road that winds to the right. Continue in a S/E direction, climbing gradually uphill, passing under the Ripe dell’Incoronata and beyond the “Costa Calda” to the province border; here, climb over a barbed wire fence to get to the junction with trail 126A.
Turning left, this trail leads to Monte Palazzolo (where trail 136 takes you back to Torchiati) or to Varco della Collavricia [Collavricia Crossing] via the 176A. A right turn, meanwhile, leads to Le Cisterne, located just a few metres away, featuring a wide open space and the partially buried stone structure that gives this charming site its name.
The panoramic view stretches from the Solofrana valleys to the North to Irno to the South, taking in the Vesuvius plain to the West. Returning to the 126-126A junction, follow the trail leading downhill in a Southerly direction, which quickly turns into a dirt track. Follow this path in a South-Easterly direction to Santuario di S. Michele di Basso [the Shrine of St. Michael of Basso]; it offers uninterrupted views of Fisciano and the impressive University of Salerno complex.
Then take the paved road leading downhill towards Settefichi; you will immediately come to an intersection with route 176 from Villa, which leads uphill towards Varco della Collavricia and the Western ridge of Pizzo S. Michele. Leave this path at the second bend to the right, and take the dirt track to the left, which continues through the mountains in an Easterly direction. The path continues among chestnut groves and past the ruins of a house, before beginning a more pronounced downhill slope at Corrite and ending at a paved road in a valley. Take a left here; within 50 metres you will reach the piazza of the ancient Church of SS. Salvatore di Calvanico.
