The small village of Casal Velino, situated on a lush hillside, still shows much of its magnificent past: most of all the Palazzo Baroniale, which has been perfectly preserved, and the ancient tower. The parish church and chapel dedicated to the cult of San Biagio are also worth a visit.
From the centre of Casal Velino, going towards the slopes of Monte Stella, we come to the hamlet of Acquavella. The hamlet takes its name from the numerous springs that once fed the Elea – Velia aqueduct. Here too, the hamlet was formed by the progressive.
On the beach of the Marina of Casal Velino, the sacred remains of the Evangelist Matthew, now patron saint of Salerno, were put ashore on this beach and brought to the chapel of Duoflumina. Each year in August people celebrate the representation of the discovery of the sacred remains. The translation of the remains of Matthew concludes with a striking candlelight procession.
